While the wealthy have always had a greater say in American politics, seldom has the display of monetary control of our government been more visible. Are we a nation governed by democracy – rule by the people – or a plutocracy – rule by the rich?
“I love it! It’s like a ‘West Wing’ thriller with richer-the-better characters, right out of Washington D.C.!” said Alexander Slider, a political analyst with the lobbying firm Wewin4U. “Finally we have some game players with chutzpah! Leave subtlety behind and come right out and say it: the rich rule!” said Slider. “It’s certainly good for our business.”
His game reference was to the meltdown of two current characters in Washington D.C. drama, Elon Musk and Donald Trump. Musk all but claimed the leading role in the machinations of the 2024 election, saying, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.”
“Musk is refreshingly candid,” continued Slider. “And who can contest it? The top three donors brought in over a half billion dollars for Trump. The Supreme Court has already given it’s blessing with the Citizens United ruling. I tell you, money is the grease that makes our great system of government work!”

The worst hit to US democracy in history was the Supreme Court ruling on Citizens United.
