Roger Throckmorton, a professor of governmental systems at Mt. Horem University, weighed in on the unraveling drama of American Democracy vs. Plutocracy. “Citizens United has really taken the lid off donations,” he said in reference to the Supreme Court ruling declaring political ads and activities to be protected speech under the First Amendment. “But plutocracy? Not exactly.
Indeed, seven players each injected over a hundred million dollars for Trump, with Musks winning bid coming in at $266 million. What we have now in the American Presidency is an all out auction!”
When it was suggested that the American public would challenge this characterization, Throckmorton disagreed. “Look, a third of the eligible voters didn’t even show up for the last election. If we just admit it’s an auction we could save so much money! Forget the whole electoral charade. Let Sotheby’s handle it and spare ourselves the drama.”
